Yesterday we took some time to look at Contour Line drawing. Today we will expand on that idea and take it to the next level. Remember, I want you to think about these exercises as making you a better observer not a better drawer, even though it will happen.
1. Cross-Contour Drawing: yeah we are drawing…AGAIN!!! Cross-Contour lines are drawn lines which travel, as the name suggests, across the form. Cross contours may be horizontal or vertical, or both. Often, in more complex forms, cross-contours will be drawn at varying angles.
2. Quick exercise: Spiderman’s Hands, take a look at this drawing…
Trace a Contour of your hand add the lines as they travel across each FORM. What are you doing to make the hand look more realistic? If you change the direction of the lines, does it help the drawing? Choose 3 out of 6 Contour drawings from yesterday and create a CROSS-CONTOURS of each object.
