Ceramics: Dia De Los Muertos Skull Design

Respond

  • apply your comprehension for BALANCE and SYMMETRY by identifying characteristics in various art works.
  • identify specific characteristics used in your Dia de Los Muertos skull designs by creating a sketch.

I’d like to take a few moments today to really pinpoint what makes a BALANCED and SYMMETRICAL design.  As we move through some of the examples, I’d like you to compare your sketches to the list of features we will create today.

What are the STRONGEST aspects of your work today? What do you see as being ONE challenge you need to REALLY focus on this week?

Intro to Art: Peer Critique

Respond

  • analyze your understanding of VALUE by critiquing a peers art work.
  • listen and follow instructions on the proper steps to take when writing a self critique.

Today we will go through the process of CRITIQUING art work.  What does it mean to CRITIQUE?  What is the importance about getting feedback on something you are working on?  What is the worst part of receiving feedback?

Set out your GOALS PAGE and the CRITIQUE SHEET I gave you. Walk Clockwise and in serpentine fashion (I’ll demonstrate) around the room and take in the work that is in front of you. Like musical chairs, stop when I say stop and make 5 REAL COMMENTS on 5 different classmates work. What is working? What is NOT working? Last 3 minutes… Read your comments – write a BRIEF response to a classmates comments.

Painting: Painting Techniques

Connecting

  • identify various characteristics of a finished painting.
  • follow instructions by listening to a class lead critique of a famous art piece.

I’d like to take a minute to review some of the work on our featured artist this week.  Make sure you have your “Goals Sheet” ready to go at the beginning of class.  As we move through some of the work, I’d like you to write down some thoughts that you have on Paul Sone’s work.
