Intro to Art: Surrealism Challenge

  • Initiate, define, and solve challenging visual arts problems independently using intellectual skills such as analysis, synthesis, and evaluation by creating an ACTION PLAN
  • Discuss their choices and evaluate a range of subject matter, symbols, and ideas by being able to defend the choices made with their peers.

REFLECTION / EVALUATION: Consider all the requirements that have been presented with this midterm project.  Which areas do you believe will be more demanding when trying to solve?  Which areas do you believe you will easily succeed at?  Choose one option to describe in detail.

Before you guys get into “SPRING BREAK” mode, I want to spend a little time today to review the requirements of this project, to be sure that you have an idea of what needs your focus on a day-to-day basis:

1.Your painting must use at least 5 thumbnails from the past“Surrealism Worksheet.”

*1 Distortion, 1 Proportion and 3 other thumbnails at your discretion

2. The final piece needs to be composed with a LANDSCAPE (or setting)…

NOT A ONE COLOR BACKGROUND

3. There must be evidence within this piece of a least 3 watercolor techniques from our class experiments.

4.The final work needs to LOOK (read) as ONE whole image.  The thumbnails are actually INTERACTING with one another.

  • Apply subjects, symbols, and ideas in their artworks and use the skills gained to solve problems by carrying out the choices made in their ACTION PLAN.
  • Describe the origins of specific images and ideas and explain why they are of value in their artwork and in the work of others by answering the REFLECTION/EVALUATION question:

Reflection Question:  Out of all the information that was presented today, which requirements do you feel will be the easiest for you to carry out in acrylic paint for your upcoming project?  Which requirements do you feel will be the toughest to follow through with?
