Intro to Art: What is LINE

  • Engage in making a work of art or design without having a preconceived plan by practicing LINE SHAPES within guided notes.
  • Orally ask any questions about the project demonstration they may have using complete sentences

Today we will be discussing one of the most important characteristics involved in making art…LINE.

Throughout the class, we will be discussing the definition(s), various characteristics, and specific things LINE can do when used in an artwork.   In your sketchbooks, you will be asked to take notes on our discussion so that you can refer back to these ideas, but also to sketch out a few examples that will be practiced in the upcoming days for your challenge project.

Graphic Coms: Working with Installed Fonts

  • Orally ask any questions about the project demonstration they may have using content specific vocabulary.

We are going to be “piggy-backing” on yesterday’s demonstration and continuing our work with downloaded and installed fonts and the ways they can be used within an image.

Be sure to follow your hour’s Edmodo link for all the necessary directions and files used in today’s class.

Update: Use these links for class if Edmodo is down.

Drawing: Introduction to Composition

  • Engage in understanding rules for organizing  a work of art or design without having a preconceived plan by using COMPOSITION, explained within guided notes.
  • Orally ask any questions about the project demonstration they may have using complete sentences.

How does an artist start a work of art, drawing, or painting?  What are the rules to making the first mark?

Over the course of the past few year’s, I’ve had several very talent students come up to me and explain that they had no problem when it came to the “DOING” of an actual drawing/project.  They struggle on the “STARTING.”

Over the course of the next few days, we will be discussing an extremely important concept of organization, called COMPOSITION, or how visual aspects are organized within an artwork.  We will be taking some notes and doing a few examples together, so be sure to bring your sketchbook throughout the week so that you can refer back to these notes once the next drawing is assigned.
