Intro to Art: Tessellation Mid-Term Project

  1. Conceive and create works of visual art that demonstrate an understanding of how the communication of their ideas relates to the media, techniques, and processes they use by working on a series of watercolor thumbnails that visual detail the appearance(s) of their final painting.
  2. Initiate, define, and solve challenging visual arts problems independently using intellectual skills such as analysis, synthesis, and evaluation by writing a response to their mid-term proposal.

Be aware that while you have the ability to choose a tessellation style that you are comfortable with, you shouldn’t be distracted about the difference of total patterns that are needed.  The first mistake many students make is looking for an “easy” way out, and then having to deal with issues that they didn’t see until they are in the middle of the “creating process.”

Here are a few videos I found online that may help explain the process a bit more, for those of you who were absent:

Available to you also is a “Help Folder” which will show you some past examples of student work (both the Good & Bad).  Looking into these folders you can not only find some really good ideas for inspiration, but also make yourself aware of what types of issues past student ran into that made there project unsuccessful.

Be sure to pick up a copy of the “Tessellation Cheat Sheet” which will be made available to you as an aid in during this week’s return.

Graphic Coms: Mid-Term Project (Package Design)

As of yesterday’s period, you have now been made aware of our time table for the midterm project.  Today you will be given access to all of the necessary files, links, and digital aides you would encounter for this project.  While time will be made available to you to work digitally on this project, I caution each and every one of you to be sure that you are aware that you are not making a copy of an actual package, but designing your own concept of what the label(s) would look like.

Be sure to check your hour’s Edmodo site for any updates to files that you may be needed to work on your project.

Drawing: Final Drawing (Midterm Project)

Here is a quick little video that details a very simple trick to help boost VALUE and DETAIL in your drawings:

Be sure to be aware of this drawing’s requirements, which on the service may seem vague, but do have some very specific concepts behind them.  Your past drawings should be pick up and used as “measuring stick” as to the skills and abilities you need to show.
